Analysis of "Meet the Unseen Workforce that Stitches Etsy Together"
This text was very eye opening as it was all about how we think Etsy workers are people with extra time on their hands that want to sell a hobby of theirs. When in reality, Etsy workers often spend 10-12 hours a day working on what they are selling. Their businesses often become family business, where they make their children and husbands help out too in order to get all of their work done on time. They are working more than those that work the normal 9-5 every day and they get none of the benefits like health care or insurance. Is there more a risk factor or benefit to opening an etsy business at this point? There was also a whole other side of etsy that is businesses that claim to be small businesses or homemade that are actually being mass produced in a factory and just sold on etsy. This is hurting those that are actually taking the time to craft their goods instead of just paying for them to be mass produced. A solution to this is to do your research before buying on Etsy in order to truly only buy and support a small business.
