The text is very informative, it explains how as the internet has come about, transgender individuals have started to feel more comfortable as they can connect with others. However, it was originally a struggle as all the websites blocked and flagged words that would allow them to connect with others. It is a very somber text as it is sad to think of how America was so unopen to the ideas of people being themselves and who they felt most comfortable being. However, the ending is more uplifting as the individuals talk about how they finally started to be accepted on apps and were able to connect with those around them. The intended audience is definitely all of us and the average eye, in order to bring more awareness and light to the issues that transgender people have faced. I think it will draw in the transgender audience as well. It may draw out individuals who are not very educated on the topic because they feel uncomfortable or the topic hits too close to home for them. The text was set up in a way that was as if all the individuals interviewed were having a conversation. The author pieced all of their stories and answers together to tell a larger story and prove a point that all of these people had extremely similar situations and experiences while trying to voice themselves on the internet. This happened in the early 1990s, and the end of the article ends with saying that it is so much better today, yet still not perfect. We can use the set up of the article, which is switching off every paragraph from a different person to tell the same story, in our own writings as well. I think it is important for us to understand the differences around us and know what others may have gone through in the past and this article is a good reminder of that. We never know the full picture.
