Last night, my family and I decided that we were going to go out to dinner for the first time since quarantine. We went to a restaurant in downtown Downers Grove and sat outside near the street. With everything going on right now, all the windows of stores and restaurants were boarded up and everything seemed very gloom and doom. We finished dinner and then decided to walk down our Main Street.
I'm not a very political person and I am in no way trying to diminish a huge issue going on in our country. However, when I turned the corner onto Main Street in Downers Grove, I expected to see an empty street with boarded up windows. I thought it was going to be so sad and depressing. In fact, the whole reason I wanted to walk downtown was because I wanted to take a video of how sad this time in our world is right now.
What I found when I turned the corner was completely shocking and a feeling I will never forget. My family and I turned the corner to find a ton of people sitting outside of restaurants enjoying their meals. We also saw that many of the boarded up windows had been painted over or were currently being painted. The paintings were all such positive messages of hope for the Downers Grove community. It brought me the greatest feeling of joy to see the whole DG community coming together and lifting each other up in such a difficult time.

No matter what your political views are, I think we can all agree that we want to be happy and feel united right now. Our nation is so divided and it should be the complete opposite. We should be coming together to support one another. Instead of having to take down our American flags, we should be able to put them up to show our dedication to helping our country. The Downers Grove community did just that by painting all these positive messages to share with the community. Please share positive messages with those around you because everyone could use the support right now! Remember that while some people have bigger issues than others, everyone is carrying their own burdens.
